Katherin Elizabeth Hudson, better known as Katy Perry, is an american singer, songwriter, producer and actress. Katy started her musical career on early 00's as a gospel singer, using the name Katy Hudson. Katy, however, rose to worldwide fame in 2008, by the release of her first smash hit single I Kissed a Girl. The song, that caused controversy for mentioning lesbianism, peaked at #1 at Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the best selling songs of that year. Perry's sucess continued as she released her next single "Hot n' Cold", which peaked at #3 at Billboard Hot 100 and has sold 8 million copies in U.S so far.
Her first album One of The Boys was a commercial success, introducing Katy to the world and being responsible for consolidating her name in the pop scenario with 4 successful singles, including the ballad 'Thinking of You', which was written fully by Katy. In 2009 Katy announced her first world tour, The Hello Katy Tour, which was responsible to promote her first album. The tour visited 4 continents and had a total of 89 concerts.
In 2010, Katy released her new lead-single, California Gurls. The song peaked at #1 at Billboard Hot 100 and is now known for being one of the most successful summer hits of all time. The song introduced a new side of Katy Perry and revealed the candy thematic that she would later explore in her new album, Teenage Dream.
The Teenage Dream Era
Few albums are so successful in the industry as Teenage Dream were. The biggest work of Perry's career, Teenage Dream in undoubtely one of the most successful albums of all time. Having sold around 20 million
copies worldwide and more than 100 million singles, Teenage Dream broke uncountable records and was the responsible for consolidating Katy Perry as one of the biggest pop-stars of all time. Totalizing 8 singles,
the album is the album that sold most singles in history. Also, Katy was the first and only female artist to ever have 5 consecutive singles to peak at #1 on Billboard Hot 100, something that only Michael Jackson had done before.
With 8 singles, Katy conquered 6 #1 peaks at Billboard Hot 100. The other two singles, Wide Awake and The One That Got Away, unfortunately didn't reach the #1 stop. However, both peaked at top 3 on Hot 100. Together, they sold more 100 million copies worldwide, making Katy the second best-selling digital artist of all time, only behind Rihanna.
Despite having huge commercial success, the album received mixed reviews by the specialized critic, which did not stop Katy from receiving inoumerous awards and a few Grammy's nominations.
In 2012, Katy started her new world tour, The California Dreams Tour. The tour was responsible to promote Teenage Dream and again visited 4 different continents. However, this tour was the first tour where Katy performed in arenas. The tour grossed $59.5 million dollars with a total of 124 concerts. The tour received positive reviews from the critic. During a concert in São Paulo, which was Katy's biggest concert so far, her husband Russel Brand asked for divorce over text. The scene was showed in her documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me, that documented her treajetory during the tour, while showing some parts of her history and the beggining of her career.
